Summer Nights

This summer, Jason and I and our kids have spent pretty much every night out in our driveway after we get home from work. We just hang out and let the kids play with their friends, ride their bikes or their Power Wheels, and of course, we draw with sidewalk chalk. I started developing a sidewalk chalk series of Instagram posts by posting a pic of whatever I had drawn that particular evening on Instagram. I liked how the filters on Instagram gave the images an even more rustic/rough look. It inspired me to really look into how I could channel this hobby of mine into a more developed concept. Thus, the inspiration behind DeBoer Decor.

Materials

Here is a list of my favorite media and materials to use when creating pieces:

*Chalk
*Charcoal
*Oil Pastel
*Reclaimed pallet wood
*Colored wood stain
*Canvas
*Sketchpads
*Acrylic paint pens and acrylic paint

Someday I will try experimenting with oil paints, but I haven’t worked up the nerve yet. I would also like to purchase a wood pen – they burn images into wood and allow you to ‘draw’ right into the wood.

Day One of DeBoer Decor

Last night Jason and I named our business.  There’s nothing like a name to legitimize what is still an immaterial idea, since we have yet to create our products.  But, the idea exists, and thus, the business has been started.  Combining Jason’s handyman skill and my artistic ability along with our shared love of working with our hands, our products are going to be unique pieces that help your house stand out from all the rest.
